3600 Ellesmere Road, Unit 3,
As always, it’s been a busy few weeks around the office and Scarborough-Rouge Park community!
Earlier this month, I had the honour of attending the 34th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland. The UNHRC is tasked with addressing egregious international human rights issues and strengthening protections for citizens of every country. While I was there, I was able to connect with ambassadors and representatives from various countries and non-governmental organizations. I was also pleased to see the role that Canada continues to play in addressing human rights issues at home and abroad recognized, and am proud of the reputation we have made for ourselves on the international stage. It was truly an inspiring experience that has reaffirmed that we are on the right path, however, much work still remains here at home. I look forward to working along with our government, my colleagues and members of the community in protecting human rights for everyone.
On March 8, in honour of International Women’s Day 2017, I was privileged to have a talented young woman, Christiana Agustin, from Scarborough-Rouge Park, take my seat in the House of Commons for the day. Christiana was the chosen delegate ofDaughters of the Vote from our riding, and is a human-rights and climate-change advocate, accomplished athlete and a student at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. It was truly an honour to have her represent our riding and myself. I look forward to hosting and encouraging many of our youth through this program in the coming years.
As the tax filing deadline of April 30 draws near, our Volunteer Tax Clinic is now underway at our office. Occurring every Wednesday evening until mid-May, this program offers free tax preparation to those who need it. Please contact my office for information about eligibility and appointment.
Yours very truly,
