A few events of note in Scarborough-Rouge Park

This past month has been very busy with a multitude of events and announcements in Scarborough–Rouge Park. Below I have highlighted a few of note.

Tim Hortons Smile Campaign

During the week of September 16 – 22, Tim Hortons held their annual “Smile Cookie Campaign.” I was excited to participate in the event at a local Tim Hortons in our riding by selling as many “$1 Smile Cookies” as possible! I am glad to have participated in a campaign that raises funds exclusively for local charities and organizations such as the Children’s Breakfast Club.

Police ride-along

I also had the opportunity to spend the day with local officers during a police ride-along earlier this month. The experience was both enjoyable and informative as I gained a better understanding of what it means to serve as a police officer and the challenges they face on a daily basis. Amid the unprecedented spike in gun and gang violence, our government is working with our partners to keep the people of Toronto safe. Our $3-million investment for new CCTVs will provide the officers of the Toronto Police Service with the additional tools their leadership has indicated are essential to tackle the latest wave of gun and gang violence.

Pan Am Tour & Funding Announcement

I joined Minister Lisa MacLeod at the Pan Am Sports Centre for a tour of the facility. We also announced our government’s plan to invest over $9 million into “The Canadian Sports Institute” and “Coaches Ontario.” The investment will help provide athletes and coaches with the resources they need to train, improve and succeed. We are excited to help support them as they aim for gold at world-class events like the 2020 Ontario Summer Games and the Niagara 2021 Canada Summer Games.

Filipino Canadian Conservative Council Summer Gala

I had the pleasure of joining the Filipino Canadian Conservative Council (FCCC), an organization initiated by the late Senator Tobias Enverga Jr, at their first annual Summer Gala. Senator Tobias Enverga Jr had a vision that Filipinos who share the same moral values and beliefs should be united to achieve a common goal to encourage full participation of Filipino-Canadian Conservatives in the political process at all levels of government in Canada.
