Your light displays make evening strolls so lovely!

By Kathy Rowe

The holidays are upon us once again. Many Centennial homeowners are beginning to display beautiful outdoor lights and decorations for all to see. This makes nighttime strolls in the community so lovely. When I go for evening walks in my neighbourhood at this time of year, my favourite scent is that of burning wood in fireplaces. Nothing beats that!

CCRA’s AGM

Last month we had our CCRA Annual General Meeting, and I am pleased to say that two of our acting board members were officially voted in as board members. John Murphy, who manages our transportation file, and Tracy Forsyth, who takes care of our social media, are now officially part of our CCRA executive. We are fortunate to have them serve on our board.

Guest Speaker Neethan Shan

Our AGM guest speaker was Councillor Neethan Shan. Neethan spoke about his background and education. He also told us about his position as a youth worker in a Malvern area high school before he began to explore municipal politics.

In 2017, he held the role of city councillor for what was then known as Ward 44. It was interesting to hear about his roles as school trustee and chair of the TDSB. Neethan spoke about the democratic process and his eagerness to work with the resident associations across Ward 25.

Neethan was recently appointed to the executive committee at City Hall. His portfolios include the Toronto Zoo, Toronto Hydro and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. Neethan’s office is in Highland Creek at 382 Old Kingston Road. Neethan encourages residents to drop by to ask questions, raise their concerns, or just say hello. The CCRA looks forward to working with our councillor in 2026.

Community Carol Sing

On Sunday, December 14 at 7 p.m., St. Dunstan of Canterbury Anglican Church on Lawson Rd. will be hosting their annual Community Carol Sing. Once again, the CCRA will be providing the funds for the refreshments that evening. Please come out and enjoy some Christmas cheer with your friends and neighbours.

Holiday Tree Lighting
Congratulations to Jill’s Team for hosting their fifth annual Holiday Tree Lighting Party on November 23! This free event was filled with festive fun for kids and adults, with free pizza, popcorn and hot chocolate, live music from Jill’s Team band members, and the lighting of the tree. If you missed it, be sure to drop by and admire the beautifully illuminated tree at the community centre this month.

Port Union Road
Now that the roadwork on Port Union is coming to an end, take a look at our centre spread to learn more about the changes and improvements that have been made to the street.

Repair Cafe
The last Repair Cafe of the year is being held on Saturday, December 13 at the Port Union Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Winterfest is coming!

On Saturday, January 31, Winterfest will return to Port Union Community Centre. This festival has something for everyone! More information to come in the New Year. Please keep an eye on our social media for more details.

I wish you all much happiness throughout the holidays and all the best in the New Year!
