Afterglow’s lead singer Lizzie Lyon delighted the audience at the Taylor Swift tribute band’s
concert at West Rouge Community Centre in September.

The Afterglow concert (a Taylor Swift tribute band) was completely sold out a few days before the show in September. An audience of 330, made up of mostly girls under the age of 17, parents, grandparents and a few dads, came to the West Rouge Community Centre to experience an energetic performance filled with the songs of Taylor Swift.
Once inside, many concert goers headed to the free bracelet making tables on the main floor. Louise Bonnycastle (president of West Rouge Sports and Recreation) was all set up with her volunteers and a multitude of beads and strings. The kids loved creating their bracelets of Taylor Swift song titles and messages of friendship. Soon it was time to line up to enter the second-floor ballroom where the band was setting up.
Everyone waited patiently for the doors to open and have their tickets scanned. The anticipation was electric! I have never seen so many smiles on so many faces all at once as ticket holders entered the ballroom. Once the music started there was no stopping the moms from dancing on the chairs, singing every word, while straining for a better look at leading vocalist Lizzie Lyon and her bandmates.
Afterglow did not disappoint and the performance was fantastic! The songs “Love Story” and “Shake it Off” were definite highlights for the “Swifites” in the audience. The band was thrilled with the audience reaction. Lead singer Lizzie confessed to me later that she absolutely fell in love with the little girls who stood at the front of the stage singing and dancing throughout the entire show.
I want to thank Afterglow for a memorable experience, the many volunteers who had my back, and the West Rouge Sports and Rec association for their unwavering support in bringing this event to the community.
There is already talk about inviting Afterglow back next year.
