Gay Cowburne conducts the CCRA executive elections at the AGM

The residents of Centennial came out in droves to CCRA’s Annual General Meeting on November 20. Well, maybe not droves exactly but it was extremely well attended with 31  people. AGMs are traditionally a tough draw, so we’re always delighted when the room at the Port Union Community Centre is pretty much full. Thanks to everyone who attended!

CCRA President Kathy Rowe did a masterful job of running the meeting and talking about the highlights of the community association’s 75th anniversary year.

She also announced that Past President Jeff Forsyth is retiring from the board after more than 40 years, and she thanked him for his exceptional contribution. Jeff received a standing ovation from those who were at the meeting.

Transportation director Amaan Jabbar and member-at-large Mark Campbell also stepped down and Kathy thanked them for their service. Then she welcomed three new board members, Sue Anfang, John Whyte and Karen Dias. All three were involved in our Community Challenge and anniversary party in October.

Luckily for CCRA, the rest of the executive team will continue in their roles. They are a deeply appreciated group of people who do a lot of work for this community. See page 2 for their names.

After the business part of the meeting, residents took a break for tea, coffee and cake, and then enjoyed the fabulous photos of guest speaker Colin Winn. He started the West Rouge Photography Facebook group, where you can see beautiful shots of our community and its wildlife on a daily basis. Sunrises are a specialty.

As Colin showed a variety of amazing photos, he spoke about the importance of having community connections. That reminder was a great way to end the meeting.
