Community Recreation Programmer Rob McMulkin and M.P. Gary Anandasangaree gave speeches

On Thursday June 28 the Port Union Seniors in partnership with the City of Toronto put on a wonderful first annual Canada Day event. The day began with welcome speeches (Community Recreation Programmer Rob McMulkin and M.P. Gary Anandasangaree) followed by the singing of O Canada. The Highland Creek Legion # 258 Colour Guard provided a salute to the flag.

There were program demonstrations, line dancing, hot dogs, hamburgers, cake, prize announcements and plenty of music throughout the day. The senior’s Memory Lane band and choir performed popular tunes from the 40’s and 50’s.

Line dancing was a popular part of the celebration

The weather was perfect and well over 300 community members attended the celebration. We look forward to future Canada Day parties at the Port Union Community Centre.
