Prepare for construction but enjoy the festivals

Lawrence Avenue E – Major Road Resurfacing

Lawrence Avenue East from Port Union Road to Meadowvale Road is scheduled for reconstruction this year. The project includes new asphalt surface and required repairs to curbs and sidewalks along this portion. Work may include the closure of individual lanes or detours.  The project is expected to begin later in the summer construction season.

Kingston Road/Hwy 2A – Major Road resurfacing

Kingston Road from the Lawson Road bridge to Morningside Avenue is scheduled for reconstruction of the roadway and required repairs to curbs and sidewalks along this portion. Improvements to pedestrian infrastructure, including the implementation of accessible pedestrian signals and tactile walking surfaces, are also planned. This project is scheduled to begin in the early part of the summer construction season.

Notices for the above projects will be delivered to residents and businesses within the construction zones. Further updates will also be posted on my website at jimhart.ca when details are finalized.

Port Union Road Project

The detailed design for Port Union Road has been progressing and the city is awaiting feedback from utility providers. The design process is going to extend for the remainder of this year. When the utility impacts are known and addressed, a construction schedule will be formulated and a public information meeting scheduled. It is anticipated that construction will begin in the 2019 construction season. For updates, please visit: toronto.ca/portunionroad.

It’s Almost Festival Season in Ward 44!

The month of June marks festival season here in our beautiful part of the city. I hope you can join us at one or more of these great community events.

Rouge Days takes place June 2 to 9. East Scarborough residents are very fortunate to have this great natural wonder on our doorstep. Enjoy the many events and get out to explore the Rouge National Urban Park. For more information visit rougedays.ca

This year’s Highland Creek Heritage Festival takes place on June 16.  Now in its 33rd year, this community festival celebrates the beautiful, historic Village and offers a great opportunity to meet your neighbours and support our local businesses.

On Saturday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., join us at the Port Union Waterfront Festival. The festival was started back in 2008 by the late councillor Ron Moeser as a way to enjoy and showcase our spectacular waterfront park system and trail.
