A historic investment in housing across Toronto
With Parliament now back in session, our work continues both in Ottawa and here in Scarborough–Guildwood–Rouge Park. As we enter the fall, we remain focused on delivering for Canadians and addressing the priorities we hear from residents every day.
Building More Homes
I was proud to stand alongside Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mayor Olivia Chow to announce a historic $2.7 billion investment that will support more than 18 housing projects across Toronto. This investment will help deliver over 5,600 new rental homes, including 1,800 affordable units, creating more housing options for families, seniors, students, and working Canadians.
By investing in new rental and affordable housing, we are helping more people find a place to call home while supporting the continued growth of our communities. The Government of Canada is focused on building more homes, expanding affordable housing, and ensuring Canadians have access to housing that meets their needs.
Expanding Scarborough Transit
Construction is underway at the future Lawrence and McCowan Station, marking a major milestone for the Scarborough Subway Extension. The Government of Canada is investing over $2.25 billion in the Scarborough Subway Extension – part of the largest federal public transit investment in the history of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring more reliable rapid transit closer to residents, making it easier to get to work, school, appointments and destinations across Toronto. This historic investment will create good jobs, support economic growth, and provide more convenient connections for families and commuters. Once complete, the extension will help ensure Scarborough has the infrastructure it needs to support our growing community.
Investing in Sport and Community
It was a pleasure to welcome Secretary of State Adam van Koeverden to Scarborough–Guildwood–Rouge Park to announce $837,000 in federal funding for renovations to the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario at the Pan Am Sports Centre.
This investment will support important improvements to local sport infrastructure and help ensure athletes have access to quality facilities as they train and compete at the highest levels.
Sport plays an important role in bringing people together, keeping Canadians active, and building healthy and connected communities. This announcement is part of the government’s $1 billion investment in sport, which supports Canadian athletes, strengthens sport infrastructure, increases participation, and helps Canada continue to host world-class sporting events.
I look forward to continuing this work in the months ahead and keeping you informed about the progress being made in our community.
