This is my first full summer as a resident of Port Union, where the joys and magical moments in nature just keep coming!
What drew me here was that proximity to nature while still having an easy commute into the city for work. There are dozens more species of birds and insects that I have seen out here than in the city, not to mention the foxes, raccoons, skunks and minks that are my neighbours.
I am an artist and nature documentarian for a channel on Youtube called Animalogic, and Port Union has been a dream for keeping the inspiration coming.
On June 26, my husband and I went for a bike ride along the trails in Colonel Danforth Park. Standing in the river was a doe with a calf feeding on her milk. Both were cooling their legs in the water.
We quietly peered through the lush trees to watch the tender moment. It was such an awe-inspiring sight to see these creatures thriving alongside us, going about their lives on a hot summer day.
A kilometre south along the beach, humans were also cooling their legs in the water and quenching their thirst. It was a reminder of the importance of preserving these natural corridors, where animals and people can share space and coexist.
