Enjoy your celebrations!

By Kathy Rowe

The holidays are almost here! The early snowfall has really helped to kick-start the holiday planning. In November, our greater community saw a number of craft bazaars and a tree lighting that certainly helped residents get into the spirit of giving.

On Sunday, December 11  at 6 p.m., St. Dunstan of Canterbury church on Lawson Road will be bringing back their evening Community Carol Sing. We welcome this event back after a two-year pandemic break. The CCRA is pleased to help provide the refreshments following the event. Please come out and meet Reverend Graham McCaffrey, take part in the music and enjoy the refreshments.

Annual General Meeting

On November 17, we held our AGM. I want to thank our guests Elizabeth Walsh, from the councillor’s office, and Anu Sriskandarajah, our public school trustee, for attending and lending their voices.

Even though the meeting wasn’t well attended, several interesting discussions took place thanks to those who did take part. Our AGM is an important meeting for residents because it gives everyone a summary of what the CCRA has accomplished over the year. We are the voice of this community, and it was a shame that more residents didn’t take part.

At the meeting I spoke about the executive board members and the portfolios that each member manages. I highlighted the issues in our community that the CCRA has become involved with over the past year.

I dubbed 2022 as the year of “returning to normal” for our community. Many terrific events have come back and we are so happy to be a part of them. Our current board will all be back and ready for 2023.

I want to express my thanks to all of the executive and members at large for a very successful 2022. We are an exceptional team, and I certainly couldn’t lead without the incredible support I receive.

At the meeting I announced that 2023 will be my final year as president of the CCRA. I am embarking on my sixth year in the position, and I feel strongly that the time has come to begin succession planning for new leadership in 2024.

In the meantime, I look forward to leading the CCRA in 2023. Our monthly meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month, except July and August, beginning at 7:15 p.m. at the Port Union C.C. I encourage residents to come out and join us. Please contact our secretary Laurie MacIsaac if you are interested in attending one of our monthly meetings: Laurie.MacIsaac@ccranews.com

Enjoy your holiday celebrations with family and friends. I look forward to seeing you in 2023.
