Happy New Year!
Now that the holiday season is behind us, the CCRA can begin to plan objectives for 2019.
But before I jump into the future, I must acknowledge a few events that took place in our community during the month of December.
Sir Oliver Mowat’s musical production of Mamma Mia! was delightful. It was energy infused from beginning to end with a very talented cast and crew. Thank you to all who made this show such a great success. It was truly a wonderful musical.
The Community Carol Sing at St. Dunstan of Canterbury Church on Sunday, Dec. 9 was also a lot of fun to attend. Rev. Richard Newland kept the audience laughing with his entertaining stories and clever videos. The choirs performed well and the congregation sang out many carols with gusto! If you missed this annual gathering in 2018, you must make a note to come out to it in 2019.
I was told that the Second Annual Community Tree Lighting Party hosted by Gear Realty and held at the Port Union Community Centre on Dec. 8 was a huge success once again. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this event. Wanda Wierzbicki, our distribution chair, and Denise Bacon, our membership chair, have written articles on the carol sing and the tree lighting. You can find their stories on page 8.
This year will surely be a busy one for the CCRA. Our board is growing and our new members are sorting out their roles and responsibilities. Winterfest is happening at the Port Union Community Centre on Saturday, January 26. We encourage all Centennial residents, young and old, to join in and celebrate this annual winter festival. The CCRA will have a raffle table, so please come by and say hello.
Just a reminder that our CCRA board meetings take place on the first Tuesday of every month, except for January when it’s the second Tuesday. Meetings begin at 7:15 p.m. in the lounge of the Port Union Community Centre. We encourage all residents to attend these monthly meetings to learn about what our association is doing to support the community. The next one will be held on Tuesday, January 8. Hope to see you there!
