I hope you all had a pleasant summer spending some time relaxing, and enjoying friends and family. Summer is always too short, so I’m hoping that September will be a fair weather month.
Summer in Centennial was certainly busy in June and July with the Waterfront Festival and the Port Union Summer Concert Series. This year, the weather cooperated well for the Waterfront Festival. Families enjoyed the live music, the children’s activities and the food under mostly clear skies.
Volunteers worked hard to plan and execute this event for the area communities, and their hard work paid off. Our CCRA table was busy with T-shirt and hoodie sales. Scientists in School shared our space to offer fun activities for children over the lunch hour. We were pleased to be able to bring this wonderful organization to the festival.
I’d like to thank those who volunteered for the concert series this summer. Two of the three performances were held outdoors, and you can read about the indoor performance experience on page 10. I’d like to thank CRP Rob McMulkin for giving us the space at the Port Union Recreation Centre, both inside and out! I must thank the Port Union Seniors who provided and served coffee and tea during the evening shows. Many thanks to Robert Hinz who booked the terrific performers, and thank you to West Rouge Sports and Recreation and CCRA volunteers for keeping it all together each Sunday.

CCRA’S 75th Anniversary Celebration is in October!
Our 75th Anniversary committee has been planning all summer for our big October celebration. Mark your calendars for Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19.
Our October issue of CCRA News will be fully dedicated to this milestone, and it will include a special full-colour pullout section all about the event. For more information go to: CCRA Community Challenge. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages (@ccranews) for promotion.
Come Out to Our Meetings
I encourage residents to sit in on our monthly meetings to learn about what is going on in our community. Meetings take place at the Port Union Community Centre on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:15 p.m. Upcoming meeting dates are September 3, October 1 and November 5. We hope to see you there.
