A more colourful newspaper!

Happy September, everyone! We are pleased to bring you four more colour pages in our Centennial News. Over the summer, several of our loyal advertisers expressed interest in supporting additional colour pages in our paper and we are excited to bring this more vibrant layout to our readers.
We trust readers will enjoy the additional colour, which will highlight advertisers and content alike. I want to thank the advertisers and our advertising director, Jill MacMillan, for making this happen.
Fall Fest
CCRA will be hosting our first-ever Fall Fest on Saturday, September 19 at the Port Union Community Centre from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Many committee members have worked hard over the summer planning this amazing event for our community.
I want to give a special thanks to Janice Bennink, a good friend and fierce supporter of the CCRA, for her tireless work creating the colourful Fall Fest logo that followers are seeing on our social media platforms. Janice has an impressive creative flare and we are lucky to have her input. Posters with the logo will become more prominent around the community as the event date draws closer. A big shout-out of thanks also goes to communications director Sue Anfang, fearless leader and events director Karen Dias, and her partner in crime Heather Lemieux. Together, these women have dedicated much of their time to bring us a festival to remember.

Summer Concerts were a blast
We had an excellent round of live music in July and the weather cooperated beautifully. Our performers, Fossil Fire, Swing Junkies and Port United, brought the crowds and put on memorable shows. As we plan for 2027, we are looking for your feedback regarding this annual July concert series event. We want to know what kind of music you want to hear. Meet Ward 25 Candidates
Mark your calendars! The municipal election for Toronto mayor and city councillors will be held on Monday, October 26. CCRA, along with Highland Creek, West Hill and West Rouge
Community Associations, will be hosting two forums where you can meet and listen to candidates who are vying for the job of Ward 25 city councillor. On Saturday, October 10 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., there will be a meet and greet at the Port Union C.C. and on Tuesday, October 13, there will be a second forum at the Legion in Highland Creek from 7 to 9 p.m. More details to come.
West Rouge CC Seeks Heritage Status
Throughout the summer months, the West Rouge Community Association has been putting together an application to the city that requests heritage status for the West Rouge Community Centre, which is located at 270 Rouge Hills Dr. Originally erected as a barn on a working farm in the 1870s, the building has gone through many changes over the years.
In 1990, it was designated as a City of Toronto recreation program facility. CCRA has submitted a letter of support that will help the building’s heritage status become a reality. If granted, the city will recognize the heritage and cultural value of the building. In Toronto, heritage status protects a building through different levels of legal control via the Ontario Heritage Act.
