Breaking ground on Scarborough Centre Station

I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer. It’s been a pleasure welcoming students back to school as we continue to prioritize education and create meaningful opportunities for young people across the province.

As I return to Queen’s Park, I remain committed to working on your behalf and ensuring the voices of our community are heard loud and clear in the decisions that shape our future.

Scarborough Centre Station

Shovels are now in the ground for the Scarborough Centre Station! This is the first of three stops for the Scarborough Subway Extension, a project that will serve over 105,000 more daily trips and bring modern transit to nearly 40,000 people. This extension will extend Line 2 nearly 8 kilometres deeper into Scarborough, connecting Kennedy Station to Sheppard and McCowan.

This is a major win for our students. With faster and easier connections across the GTA, the new interchange will shorten daily commutes for students and staff at Centennial College Progress Campus and the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus, making access to education more convenient and efficient.

This transit extension is about more than just building infrastructure, it’s about strengthening our community. It will finally provide families, students and workers in Scarborough with the reliable, modern transit they deserve, connecting them to opportunities across the city.

Improving Health-Care Access

The Ontario government is investing $235 million to connect 300,000 more people to primary care through over 130 new and expanded teams, especially in high-need areas like Scarborough. Historic local wins include the first-ever medical school at the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH), and the new Diagnostic Imaging Department at Scarborough General Hospital. Together they will transform access to care for thousands of families.

By expanding the scope of practice for professionals like optometrists, psychologists and pharmacists, we’ll make sure you get timely care and help reduce pressure on emergency rooms. These investments show our clear commitment to strengthening Scarborough’s healthcare system and making sure families get the care they need, when and where they need it.

We are putting people at the centre of care so that Scarborough families get better access to doctors, faster diagnostics and high-quality health services close to home.

Back to School Concerns

As students return to school, if parents with children in the TDSB have concerns, they are welcome to send them my way through my constituency office. We will be able to assist further.

Alternatively, you may contact the school board directly through its general inquiries line for the TDSB. That would be GeneralInquiries@TDSB.on.ca.

You can also reach out to the Supervisor, who represents the Minister of Education, at minister.edu@ontario.ca.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our office at 8130 Sheppard Ave. East Unit 105, by email at vijay.thanigasalam@pc.ola.org, or give us a call at 416-283-8448.
