Happy New Year, Centennial!

I hope everyone had a relaxing holiday season with their loved ones. It was a pleasure seeing so many of you at our Skate with Santa in December, and I’m grateful to have spent so much time with our community at events across Scarborough-Rouge Park this year.

Many of our local organizations celebrated big milestones last year, including the Toronto Zoo (50 years!), CCRA (75 years!), Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (10 years!), Fernie Youth Services (60 years!), West Hill – Highland Creek Lions Club (80 years!) and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (170 years!).

The residents of Scarborough–Rouge Park continue to go above and beyond in supporting one another and the organizations doing great work in our community. I look forward to continuing this work with all of you this year.

Housing Update

The City of Toronto Housing Action Plan (2020-2030) has an ambitious goal of adding 285,000 new housing units by 2031. This includes 65,000 rent-controlled homes, including 41,000 affordable and 6,500 rent-geared-to-income (RGI) homes. The Housing Data Hub has been launched to provide information on our progress towards these goals and is available for viewing at toronto.ca/housingdata.

Last year, 602 housing market units started construction in Scarborough–Rouge Park. Since 2020, 368 affordable units have been approved here, including 84 units of supportive housing that will open soon. Maps displaying the number of housing units across the city by ward and type is available on the hub.

Net Zero Consultation

The City is seeking public input on actions under consideration for the next phase of Toronto’s community-wide climate strategy, TransformTO Net Zero Strategy.

TransformTO identifies actions and targets to help us work towards our goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Toronto to net zero by 2040: one of the most ambitious targets in North America. It includes goals by sector (homes and buildings, energy, transportation and waste) and the City’s corporate goals.

The City is currently soliciting feedback to help it shape the action plan for the period 2026 to 2030, and wants to hear more about current actions residents are taking or not taking, barriers they may face, and supports that may help overcome them.

You can learn more about our net zero strategy and find the survey at toronto.ca/transformTO. The survey is open until January 31.
