Updates for the Centennial community
Centennial Park Improvements
At our Winter Centennial Neighbourhood Community Forum, we heard from parents and residents about the dire condition of the Centennial Rd. Park and the need to revitalize the park space.
We worked with Parks and Recreation and they have committed to moving forward with improvements to the Centennial Park playground. Through the City’s 2026 Capital Budget and Plan, the playground is scheduled for rehabilitation in 2027-2028. Early design work and community engagement are expected to begin in spring 2027, giving residents an opportunity to help shape the future of the space.
Port Union Road Reopening
Port Union Road is now fully open, with bike paths along the corridor accessible once again. This supports safer travel for cyclists and pedestrians while strengthening an important active transportation route in Scarborough–Rouge Park. I will continue advocating for infrastructure improvements that keep our community connected and safe.
Councillor Shan Garden Awards
I am inviting residents to nominate gardens that help make Scarborough–Rouge Park more vibrant, welcoming and environmentally friendly. To recommend a garden, please email councillor_shan@toronto.ca.
Safety Roundtable
Our office is hosting a Safety Roundtable on June 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Heron Park Community Centre. Residents are invited to share concerns, lived experiences, and ideas related to community safety priorities. Community input remains essential in shaping responsive local solutions.
Seniors Forum
I will also be hosting a Seniors Forum on June 22 at 4:00 p.m. at Port Union Community Centre. This forum will provide seniors with an opportunity to connect, share feedback, and learn more about local programs and supports.
Community Cleanups
As part of the Clean Toronto Together campaign, my office served as a local distribution hub where residents picked up cleanup supplies, including garbage bags and gloves, to support environmental efforts across parks and public spaces.
Thank you to everyone who organized and participated in community cleanups throughout the neighbourhood. A special thank you to the CCRA and the Earth Day community group for their leadership in strengthening environmental stewardship and community pride.
Staying Connected in the Community
My office will continue engaging residents through outreach initiatives, including Shan in the Park and Coffee with Shan. These gatherings create opportunities to connect directly with residents, hear feedback, and stay grounded in the day-to-day experiences of the community. More information is available at councillorshan.ca, where residents can also sign up for our newsletter and updates.
