Ensuring Scarborough’s voice is heard at City Hall

This past month has been both busy and inspiring. I have been working alongside residents to strengthen our neighbourhoods and ensure Scarborough’s voice is heard at City Hall. Every conversation – whether at a community meeting, a local shop or in one of our parks – helps me understand what matters most to residents and their families. I plan to hold community forums, similar to the six we have already hosted, throughout the year to keep these conversations going. These discussions are more than talk; they guide real solutions and advocacy at City Hall. Open dialogue is where progress begins.

Championing Local Businesses

During Toronto’s Business Week, I visited more than 40 small and family-run businesses across our ward. Each one tells a story of resilience and community pride. These businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and I am committed to helping them thrive. I am exploring the establishment of a Business Improvement Area (BIA) and other models to support the many small businesses in our neighbourhood.

Investing in Youth Leadership

Supporting young people is central to my work. This fall, I launched a Youth Leadership and Capacity-Building Program to give Scarborough youth hands-on experience in civic engagement – from understanding policies to mapping neighbourhood needs. My goal is to empower the next generation of leaders who will shape a stronger, more inclusive Scarborough.

Honouring Our Veterans

November was a time of reflection and gratitude as I joined Remembrance Day ceremonies to honour the brave men and women who have served our country. I visited multiple cenotaphs, including those at the Toronto Zoo and Scarborough Centre. At the Highland Creek Legion, I had the privilege of meeting John, a veteran who at 99 years young continues to inspire with his strength and spirit. I also spent time at the Tony Stacey Centre for Veterans Care, connecting with residents and staff who provide incredible support to those who served. These moments remind us of the sacrifices made for our freedoms and the importance of caring for those who gave so much.

Protecting Public Spaces

One message I hear often is how much people value our local spaces. That’s why I’ve been proud to stand with residents to protect public recreation areas, including securing community access to the ice rinks at Heron Park. These rinks are more than sports facilities; they are places where friendships grow, families gather, and youth learn teamwork and pride in their community. I am also working on ways to improve Centennial Road Park. Sign up for my newsletter to receive updates as this initiative moves forward.

Serving Residents Every Day

My office responded to more than 150 resident inquiries this month, helping families access city resources and resolve service issues quickly. Being accessible and responsive is what public service means to me. Our office is located at 382 Old Kingston Road.

Scarborough–Rouge Park is built on resilience, diversity, and care for one another. Together, we are creating a vibrant, inclusive community full of opportunity. I look forward to continuing this work with you in the months ahead.
