Summer Concert Series

Over three consecutive Sundays in July, hundreds of music lovers and neighbourhood attendees brought lawn chairs and their best dance moves to the Port Union Community Centre.

Hosted by CCRA, these free, annual outdoor Summer Concerts featured a lineup of talented artists performing across multiple genres. The event featured a lineup of beloved classic tunes, complemented by yummy food and a friendly, sociable atmosphere. Friends and neighbours mingled between sets, and the whole series proved to be a perfect way to unwind on a warm summer evening.

These spirited musicians featured local group Fossil Fire who rocked the house July 6 with their classic ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s covers. July 13 was a new group, The Swing Junkies, who had the crowd swaying to smooth vocals and instrumental vibes. On July 20, when perennial favourites Port United Band started performing, the crowd could not stay in the their seats and danced the night away.

Port Union Waterfront Festival

On the first day of summer, June 21, large crowds gathered near the Port Union Village Common for a special day of fun. It was a resounding success. There were lots of activities to entertain the younger crowd at the waterfront park. Not only the bouncy castles and a climbing wall but face painting and a dip in the water feature kept them busy. Add a few sweet treats to the day and the children were happy.

There were plenty of options for drinks and eating, including a BBQ. The park was bursting at the seams with more than 40 vendors and displays from local businesses and organizations. The face painting tent was popular and who could resist trying to pop the giant soap bubbles jiggling between the makers’ wands. All afternoon the main stage featured a variety of bands and highland dancers which drew appreciative audiences.

And how did the Mad Scientist, sponsored by CCRA, make those crazy concoctions?

Thank you for joining us for some hot fun in the summertime. And many hats off to the volunteers who cheerfully help make everything work. We are an amazing community and are so lucky to have these events here in Centennial.
