Jacinta Kanakaratnam
My name is Jacinta Kanakaratnam. My parents moved to Scarborough in 1979.
I hold a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Justice Studies as well as a diploma in Law and Security. I am a former board member of the West Scarborough Legal Clinic. I work as a senior advisor within the public service.
For over a decade, I have engaged tirelessly for affordable housing, community safety and civic action in Scarborough. I have worked, volunteered, and contributed to businesses and community organizations in Scarborough. I have heard and seen the ongoing, unresolved challenges people are facing because of lack of action by leadership at the municipal level.
The last four years have shown strong diverse leadership is needed to address shortcomings and unfinished work in the community; as well as address work that was promised but has not started. My overall goal is to show Scarborough–Rouge Park what it deserves: true dignified community engagement, better transit and a focus on current housing issues.
Jennifer McKelvie
As a proud resident of the Centennial community, it’s been an honour to serve as your Toronto City Councillor.
As Chair of the Infrastructure and Environment Committee, I secured funding to repair trails, clean up litter and remove invasive species. This includes repairs to the Highland Creek and waterfront trails, and construction of new segments of the Meadoway.
Over the past four years, five parks were upgraded in our ward. This includes an additional play structure and fitness equipment in the Port Union Commons. We also accelerated plans for Bill Hancox and Wanita parks, now planned for next year.
Three major infrastructure projects have been advanced. The Port Union Road reconstruction will make it safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians when completed in 2023. Construction is underway for the North East Scarborough Community Centre. Plans have been advanced to extend the Eglinton East LRT to Malvern.
I have more work to do. On October 24, I need your vote so I can complete these projects and continue working for you.
