Congratulations on CCRA’s 70th anniversary!
I would like to congratulate the Centennial Community Recreation Association on 70 years of service to our community. My team and I have enjoyed working together with the CCRA on a number of great local initiatives like the Port Union Winterfest and Waterfront Festivals, community clean-ups and much more. It was my honour to present CCRA President Kathy Rowe with a special message from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in celebration of the CCRA’s 70th Anniversary. I look forward to the continued success of the CCRA for many years to come.
Climate Action Announcement
Canadians are feeling the impacts and costs of climate change. By working together, we can take action on climate change in a way that benefits everyone.
On Monday, March 11, I was delighted to announce support for climate action here in Scarborough–Rouge Park for the ZooShare Biogas Co-operative. Our government is investing up to $2.7 million to help ZooShare Biogas Co-operative add new digester technology to its existing biogas plant in Scarborough–Rouge Park. This project turns animal waste from the Toronto Zoo into agricultural fertilizer, helps divert additional organic waste from landfills, reduces carbon pollution and produces a commercially viable commodity.
The funding comes from the Government of Canada’s Low Carbon Economy Fund and will help put Canada on track for the biggest reduction of carbon emissions in our country’s history.
Canada Summer Jobs
Canada’s young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow – they are leaders today. A strong middle class and a growing economy depend on young Canadians getting the skills and work experience they need to succeed. That’s why our government doubled the number of Canada Summer Jobs positions available to youth. Last summer, over 300 youth in Scarborough–Rouge Park benefited from the program.
This year there are three important changes to the Canada Summer Jobs Program:
- All youth between the ages of 15-30 can apply to the 2019 Canada Summer Jobs program, not just students.
- All available Canada Summer Jobs positions will be posted online at gc.caand on the mobile app.
- All Canada Summer Job postings will become publicly available as of Tuesday, April 23.
