It’s hard to believe that February has already arrived! My team and I had a great time wrapping up a busy January with the members of the Centennial community at the annual Port Union Winterfest!

I would like to thank those of you who made time to stop by our booth during the festival and speak with us about our community and our country. Your feedback is always appreciated and I will be sure to share your questions and comments with my colleagues in Ottawa now that the House of Commons has resumed.

On Tuesday, January 16th my team and I were delighted to welcome Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Scarborough for the Federal Liberal Caucus’ celebration of Tamil Heritage Month. This is the first time in history that a sitting Prime Minister has attended a Tamil Heritage Month celebration, and I cannot think of a better city than Scarborough to celebrate such an occasion!

As Canadians, we recognize the importance of celebrating our diversity and I was proud to be joined as well by my fellow Members of Parliament, Toronto Mayor John Tory and Ward 44 Councillor Jim Hart at this year’s celebration!

On Saturday, February 10th my team and I will be hosting our third annual Black History Month celebration at St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy from 1 to 4 p.m. Our Black History Month celebration will focus on the themes of black women and leadership, and will feature a special keynote address from Order of Canada Investiture Beverley Salmon. Everyone in our community is welcome.

For those of you who would like to meet my team and me, you are always welcome to contact my office at (416) 283-1414 or Gary.Anand@ parl.gc.ca. My office staff are eager to hear your ideas, assist you with federal services, answer your questions and notify you about our upcoming events in the community!
