We are forever grateful for your support

As we count down the final moments of 2020 and reflect upon the year that was, I would like to pause and give thanks to everyone who has stepped up to the plate in service of our community this year. To our front-line workers, neighbours, families and friends who were there for us when we needed it most, thank you. We are forever grateful for your support.

Canada Summer Jobs

The employer application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2021 opened on Monday, December 21, and will close on Friday, January 29. Not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and private-sector employers with 50 or fewer full-time employees can start preparing their applications now to hire a young Canadian.

In December, our government announced that up to 120,000 job opportunities will be available to young Canadians through Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) in 2021. This represents a 50 percent increase from the 80,000 CSJ opportunities approved in 2020. With this significant increase, more employers and youth will be able to apply and benefit from the program.

Strengthened Environmental Plan

This December, our government announced Canada’s strengthened climate plan, A Healthy Environment and a Healthy Economy, which will help achieve our economic and environmental goals. The proposed plan, supported by an initial $15 billion in investments, will make life more affordable for Canadians, make communities more livable, and focus on creating jobs, growing the middle class, and supporting workers in a stronger and cleaner economy.

The plan’s measures will: make the places we live and gather in more affordable by cutting energy waste; make clean, affordable transportation and power available in every community; continue to ensure pollution is not free and that households get more money back; build Canada’s clean industrial advantage; and embrace the power of nature to support healthier families and more resilient communities.

Summer Leadership Program

The Summer Leadership Program (SLP) is a unique political internship opportunity that gives young people across Canada vital experience in serving the offices of Members of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, the Liberal Research Bureau and the Prime Minister’s Office. The 2021 SLP will be administered as a virtual internship experience, ensuring that public health advice is followed at all stages.

Applications close on January 15,  and interns begin work on May 3. For more information, please contact my office using the information below.

Happy Holidays!

This holiday season and into 2021, it continues to be critically important to support our local small businesses and to ensure that we follow public health advice at all times. We can and will get through this if we continue working together. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and we all hope that a new year brings new beginnings.

Should you or your family need assistance or further information about any federal support plans, please do not hesitate to contact my team anytime at 416-283-1414 or gary.anand@parl.gc.ca.

I wish you and your families the very best of the holiday season. Merry Christmas, Joyous Kwanzaa and Happy New Year!
