Committed to best possible health care for our residents

I hope you and your families are doing well as we finally enter spring. I am looking forward to the warm weather and the many exciting things happening here in our community.

Youth Summer Job Fair

I had the opportunity to meet so many constituents at my Youth Summer Job Fair, connecting young people with part-time and summer jobs right here in Scarborough. There is no doubt that getting a part-time job when you are young is a formative life experience and I am glad so many people came out. I want to thank our volunteers and the companies who came for making this a meaningful event for so many young people in our community.

Connecting More People to Primary Care

We are committed to providing the best possible health care to our residents and that requires access to a family doctor. While Ontario leads the country with 90% of people connecting to a regular health-care provider, we know we can do better!

That is why our government is investing $110 million to create 78 new and expanded interprofessional primary care teams and add over 400 new primary care providers to help connect up to 328,000 more Ontarians to primary care.

Not to mention, we are building the first-ever medical school in Scarborough that will train the next generation of health-care professionals right here at home!

We are making steady progress on this issue and I will continue to keep you posted on what we are doing to improve health-care outcomes in Scarborough.

Building More Homes in Toronto

Our government remains committed to working with the municipal government on shared priorities for the people of Scarborough and the entire City of Toronto. I am proud that we have been able to come together in order to pursue policies that build more housing.

That is why our government announced that Ontario is providing Toronto with $114 million in funding through the Building Faster Fund after the city exceeded its 2023 housing target. Toronto broke ground on a total of 31,656 new housing units last year. We are supporting the city because increased housing requires community-enabling infrastructure.

This partnership is a great example of what can happen when governments work together!

Celebrating Riviera Barber Shop’s 55th Anniversary

I was delighted to drop by Riviera Barber Shop to celebrate their 55th anniversary. They are a true staple in our community and I am grateful for their love and support every time I drop by. They are a perfect example of the value small businesses have in our community. Congratulations to Nick and Emilia on this exciting milestone!
