Looking forward to seeing what the new year has in store

I want to wish you and your families all the best as we mark a new year. I am looking forward to seeing what 2024 has in store for Scarborough – Rouge Park and the wonderful people who call it home!

Ontario and Toronto Reach New Deal

I am proud that our government announced a new deal that will help achieve long-term financial stability and sustainability for the City of Toronto. This deal takes meaningful action to address the city’s financial challenges and advance key provincial priorities. The deal includes:

  • Provincial supports for shelters, homelessness prevention, and transit
  • Uploading the Gardiner Expressway and DVP to the province
  • Toronto to meet the province’s housing targets
  • Moving forward with rebuilding Ontario Place

We will always stand up to ensure that our government is working for the people of this city.

More Choice When Buying Alcohol

We made a promise to the people of Ontario to deliver more choice and convenience and we are continuing to deliver on that promise. Beginning no later than January 1, 2026, consumers will be able to buy beer, wine, cider, coolers, seltzers, and other low-alcohol ready-to-drink beverages at all participating convenience, grocery, and big box stores across the province.

We’re taking a balanced approach to market expansion so we can ensure our transition to a new marketplace is stable and responsible. We’re delivering on the kind of choice and convenience that people across Canada enjoy.

Preventing Unethical Puppy Sales

There is no doubt that pets are an important part of families in our community and across the province. That is why our government has introduced the Preventing Unethical Puppy Sales (PUPS) Act, which will stop harmful breeding practices resulting from “puppy mills,” impose penalties on bad actors, and make sure that dogs across Ontario receive the care they deserve.

With the strongest penalties for animal welfare violations in the country, our government is ensuring a comprehensive and robust animal welfare enforcement system to protect and safeguard animals.

Enjoying the Holiday Season

I had a wonderful time celebrating the holiday season in the community, getting the opportunity to catch up with so many of you whether it was at a local holiday party, church celebration or community event. I am proud of the wonderful community and vibrant neighbourhoods that we have here in Scarborough – Rouge Park, which makes the holiday season such a joy for so many of us!
