Focusing on issues that matter to you
I hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends. I am looking forward to continuing to serve the residents of Scarborough in 2025!
We are focused on issues that matter to you by addressing the high cost of living, gridlock and community safety concerns. I look forward to working with you on these issues in the year ahead!
Keeping our Communities Safe
Community safety is a top priority for families across Ontario, and for those in Scarborough. That is why I hosted a Community Safety Town Hall to provide a platform for residents to share their concerns. We discussed the tough on crime approach our government is taking under the leadership of Premier Doug Ford to address these issues, by investing:
● $300 million to combat auto theft by creating the first-of-its-kind auto theft prosecution team while enhancing court resources to prosecute criminals that profit from stolen vehicles.
● $112 million to enhance enforcement and prevent repeat violent offenders from harming our communities.
● $29 million to appoint new judges, Crown prosecutors and staff to reduce the backlog of criminal cases in the courts.
We are doing everything we can to equip our local law enforcement with the tools they need, but we cannot do it alone. That is why we are joining countless residents in this community and across the province who are demanding the federal government get serious on crime and implement meaningful bail reform to stop the revolving door of justice.
We cannot afford a justice system where repeat offenders are arrested and then released on the very same day.
Cracking Down on Encampments
Our government is answering the call from our constituents and leaders across the province to put an end to the chaos, ensuring safer communities by restoring law and order.
That is why we are cracking down on encampments and illegal drug use in our parks and public spaces by introducing legislation that, if passed, will provide new enforcement tools for our local police to take action. We are taking a compassionate approach, investing more than $75 million in programs that provide more long-term stable housing and temporary accommodations for those living in encampments.
We will always prioritize public safety!
