MPP to host barbecue at Adams Park

Summer is just around the corner I am excited to get out and join you at the myriad of events happening soon!  I will be hosting Vijay’s Community BBQ on June 23 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Adams Park Picnic Area A. This is free event for all constituents.

Highway 401 Rehab Project

It has been a busy month in Scarborough–Rouge Park and there are a few things of note. I joined MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy to announce our government, led by the Minister of Transportation, is investing in road improvements connecting Scarborough and Pickering. We are resurfacing Highway 401 from Neilson Road to Whites Road and Hwy 2A in addition to a number of other local projects.  These projects will improve road safety, create jobs for our construction industry and help keep our highways reliable, thus encouraging province-wide investment and trade.

Adding Mental Health and Addiction Services

Ontario’s mental health care system is disconnected, making it difficult for patients and families to get the care and services they need.  Many Ontarians wait too long for mental health and addictions services. This fragmented approach to care is failing Ontario’s families. In response, we announced an additional $689,027 this year to support people, families, and caregivers in Scarborough living with mental health and addictions challenges. As a result, the following health care service providers are receiving funding in Scarborough:

  • CMHA Toronto: $600,000 for mental health & justice safe beds
  • East Metro Youth Services: $89,027 for child and youth mental health

“Mother of the Rouge” Passes Away

Lois James, called the “Mother of the Rouge” for her success preserving the Rouge River Valley and helping create Rouge Park, Canada’s first urban national park, has died at age 95.  She was an inspiration and mentor to many in Scarborough–Rouge Park and had a positive impact on the community. May she rest in peace.

Other Highlights from this Month

Malvern Family Resource Centre had an amazing AGM celebrating 36 years serving the community.  I had the pleasure of attending their Annual Fundraising Gala 2019 Orchid Ball with proceeds from the event directly supporting the centre’s programs and services.

I would  like to congratulation CCRA for celebrating its 70th anniversary with a volunteer appreciation event. I enjoyed spending time with all the volunteers who have worked tremendously hard over the years to make CCRA an awesome community organization.

I look forward to working with you in future to ensure our community continues to prosper.  My staff and I are here to help. Contact us at 416-283-8448 or vijay.thanigasalamco@pc.ola.org. My constituency office is at 105–8130 Sheppard Ave. E.
