Brighter days ahead! More sunshine and easing of restrictions

I hope everyone has been keeping healthy and warm these past few weeks. I am excited to share that 90 percent of Ontarians aged 12 and over have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. I want to thank everyone for doing their part and rolling up their sleeves.

Easing Restrictions

Brighter days are fast approaching as we continue to ease restrictions throughout the province. As we resume in-person events near and at full capacity, I look forward to meeting you all in person very soon.

As of March 1, the Ontario government is on track to lift proof of vaccination requirements for all settings. Businesses may choose to continue to require proof of vaccination. Masking requirements will remain in place at this time.

As of Friday, February 18, we have also expanded the booster dose eligibility to youth aged 12 to 17. You can continue to book your vaccine appointments at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine.

Access to Rapid Tests

I know many residents have inquired about the COVID-19 rapid tests. I have some good news to share with you: there are 12 locations in Scarborough–Rouge Park that are distributing Rapid Test Kits. The Ontario government will be distributing up to 5 million free rapid tests each week for eight weeks through various locations across the province. We have been committed to distributing free rapid tests as soon as they become available, with over 157 million tests procured so far.

This is just another tool in our fight against COVID-19 and allows a safe and effective reopening. If you would like a rapid test kit, visit a location near you! Visit ontario.ca/rapidtest for more information.

Celebrating Women

I am looking forward to celebrating the significant role women play in our families and communities this year on International Women’s Day on March 8. We are recognizing the achievements of women here in Scarborough and across the world.

Daylight Savings

As we approach warmer days, this is just a reminder to spring your clocks forward on Sunday, March 13 at 2 a.m.
