Making a real difference for people in our community

I hope you and your families are doing well and enjoying the early signs of spring in Scarborough. As your MPP for Scarborough–Rouge Park, I’m proud to share some exciting updates from our government that are making a real difference in the lives of people here in our community.

Expanding Access to Diagnostic Care

Scarborough families deserve access to timely, world-class health care and we’re delivering just that. I’m thrilled to share that our government has completed the new Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Department at Scarborough General Hospital.

This state-of-the-art, 36,000-square-foot facility was made possible through a provincial investment of $36.6 million. It will double the imaging space, reduce wait times, and bring critical services like MRIs, mammograms, CT scans, ultrasounds and more under one roof, including Scarborough’s first-ever 3-Tesla MRI machine. This is a big win for local families, health-care workers, and our growing community.

Connecting 300,000 More People to Primary Care

Access to a family doctor or primary care provider is essential and we’re taking real steps to make it a reality for more families. That’s why our government has launched the first call for proposals to create and expand up to 80 new primary care teams, connecting 300,000 more people to care in their community this year.

This is part of our $1.8 billion investment to connect two million more Ontarians to publicly funded primary care by 2029. Our goal is simple: to ensure everyone has a family doctor or care team, no matter where they live.

New Addiction Recovery Hubs for Safer Communities

Communities across Scarborough and Ontario have made it clear: drug injection sites near schools and child care centres are not the answer. That’s why our government is transitioning these sites into Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hubs.

I’m proud to say the first nine HART Hubs are now open in cities like Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa, and this is just the beginning. These hubs will focus on treatment, mental health support and housing – not drug consumption – helping people on their path to recovery while keeping our communities safe.

Under the leadership of Premier Doug Ford, whether it’s investing in health care, expanding access to family doctors, or ensuring safer neighbourhoods, our government is delivering results that matter to Scarborough families.
