Meet our new MPP, Vijay Thanigasalam
My name is Vijay Thanigasalam, your newly elected Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for the new riding of Scarborough-Rouge Park.
True to our promise, this summer has been a busy and a very productive one. In a rarely seen move, our government returned to the Legislature immediately after the election in the summer months when the Legislature is usually not in session. We promised to hit the ground running and that is what we did.
We ended the long York University strike, invested $25 million over four years in new funding to fight gang and gun violence in the City of Toronto, and the CEO and Board of Hydro One are no longer there — promises made, promises kept.
Although I was at the Legislature becoming more acquainted in my new role and delivering on our campaign promises, I was nonetheless thrilled to crisscross Scarborough-Rouge Park. I attended as many events as possible such as the Junior Carnival and Family Day at Neilson Park, the Highland Creek Heritage Festival, and the Port Union Waterfront Festival.
I was also privileged to meet with various stakeholders such as the representatives from the Tony Stacey Centre for Veterans Care, the Scarborough Campus of the University of Toronto, Scarborough Community Legal Services, and Habitat for Humanity GTA.
Most importantly, I had many opportunities to meet with the constituents of Scarborough-Rouge Park, whether to assist them on provincial matters, hear how excited they are about the great things our government is doing, and even to listen to them when they strongly disagreed with our government. I also had the chance to sit down and discuss some of the concerns and challenges for families living in our area as well as to hear some of their praise for our great riding.
I am excited about the future as I work hard in my role as an MPP serving the residents to the best of my ability. Beyond our duties at the Legislative Assembly, my office plays the important role of serving as a conduit between the constituents of Scarborough-Rouge Park and the various provincial government services. Our team is r available to provide assistance with the following:
Birth, marriage, and death certificates; driver’s licences; health care, health cards, and OHIP matters; Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB); Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP); Family Responsibility Office (FRO); seniors services and information; and providing certificates for milestones such as birthdays and wedding anniversaries.
If you need any assistance in any provincial matter, please do not hesitate to reach out to my office. Our newly opened constituency office is located at 105-8130 Sheppard Ave E. and we look forward to hosting regular meetings with residents at the office on Fridays. Please call ahead to make your appointment to see me or just drop by during our operating hours to speak with one of my staff. You can reach us at vijay.thanigasalamco@pc.ola.org or 416-326-7274.
