Summer is here and that means more outdoor activities for all of us. Whether you are gathering in one of our local parks or in your own backyard, please remember that there are bylaws regarding levels of noise from music, vehicles and construction. There are different regulations for the many sources of noise in our city. Details about prohibited sound levels can be found online at Toronto.ca or by calling 311.
A common noise complaint in neighbourhoods during the summer is outdoor music. According to the city bylaws, the music sound level must not exceed 50 decibels between11 p.m. and 7 a.m. This sound level would be equivalent to the sound of an outdoor AC unit from about 100 feet away.
Residents experiencing persistent noise are encouraged to call 311 to file a complaint. Let’s all be mindful of our neighbours when enjoying our time outdoors this summer
