The Port Union Seniors is an active group of fun-loving people aged 55+ who enjoy a wide variety of activities. They meet regularly at the Port Union Community Centre and partake in fitness, social and cultural events, of which card playing, crafting and day-tripping are the most popular.
In March, the group launched their own website, portunionseniors.com, which highlights who they are and what programs and activities they offer. Carol Foisy, the webmaster, uploads the content that includes links to all of the programs offered to seniors, photos of people participating in different activities, and information about day trips and/or events that seniors can sign up for.
Carol said her fellow Port Union seniors were looking forward to the website being launched so they could share their ideas with others in the hopes of attracting new members. Carol credits the Port Union Senior Council for supporting its launch.
One unique service on the website is the Repair Café that occurs every six weeks on a Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Port Union Community Centre. They are a group of volunteer fix-it enthusiasts who repair a multitude of broken items including small appliances, housewares, jewellery, clothing, etc. Even though there is not a monetary value for the repairs, a donation is appreciated by those who volunteer their time to their community.
