Retired teacher Claire Hughes picked up garbage in the pouring rain

It may have rained heavily on the Earth Day event on April 22, but that didn’t stop residents from coming out in large numbers to take part in this special day. CCRA President Kathy Rowe and the Earth Day committee had gone to a lot of effort to put the day together and you rewarded them by being enthusiastic about it.
“Earth Day was an overwhelming success,” Kathy said. “I love the fact that people in our community truly want to make our world a better place in which to live.”
From picking up litter around the neighbourhood to chatting about native plants inside the Port Union Community centre, from the kids’ planter-building workshop to the long lineups at the Scouts recycling drive at West Rouge CC, you showed you cared about this planet. Keep up the good work, everyone! There’s still so much to be done.
