Thanks to all who made Winterfest a success!

I would like to thank Winterfest chair Jake Forsyth, committee members from the CCRA and the West Rouge Sports and Recreation, the many sponsors, vendors, the Port Union Seniors and, of course, our participants for making Winterfest such a terrific success this past weekend. The day was mild and the snow was mostly gone, but families enjoyed the day-long food and attractions both outdoors and indoors.

Congratulations are in order for Lakshmi Anandarj and Jake Forsyth. These two CCRA committee members received Canada 150 Youth awards from MP Gary Anandasangaree in January. The awards were given to them for their outstanding volunteer commitments over the past few years. Both Lakshmi and Jake have demonstrated solid leadership in our community schools and various organizations. It was a pleasure to support them on this special day.

Our committee is already busy planning our spring social dinner dance, which will be taking place at the West Rouge Community Centre on Saturday, April 7. We are pleased to announce that the live band will be Port United. Many of you have seen and heard this dynamic band play at our summer concert series. There are more details about this event on page 1.

Lastly, I would like to thank ice hockey Olympian Natalie Spooner for taking the time on her way to South Korea to answer our list of questions for the front-page article. The CCRA is delighted to feature a true local champion! We wish Natalie the best of luck as she competes for Canada at the 2018 winter Olympics in PyeongChang. Go for the gold again Natalie!
