The 2nd Highland Creek Beavers, Cub Scouts, Venturers and Rovers have been busy with weekly meetings, weekend camps and day events. The Scouts, Venturers and Rovers went camping at Cobourg Scout Reserve for a weekend in January. They all had an adventurous time hiking, tobogganing and taking part in other outdoor activities.
Beavers went to the Loblaws cooking school where they made delicious pizza and decorated cupcakes. They also went tobogganing.
The Cubs learned about indoor rock climbing and how to safely participate at the Toronto Climbing Academy. They were also busy planning and designing their Cub Cars.
All Scouting youth participated at the Scarborough Area Rally in February, an annual event to race and show their custom-designed buggies, cars or trucks.
In February, Scouts observed Scout Guide week in remembrance of the Founder of Scouts and Girl Guides, Lord Baden Powell and his wife Lady Baden Powell, who was the Chief Guide. They celebrated the same birth date, February 22, however Lord Baden Powell was 32 years older than his wife.
Scout groups opened in Canada as early as 1908 and groups officially registered in Toronto in 1909. At that time they were called the Boy Scouts and only allowed boys. In 1998, Scouts Canada went co-ed and welcomed girls to join its sections.
2nd Highland Creek Scouts have been meeting in the Centennial area since 1955 and are sponsored by the CCRA.
