These adorable snow leopard cubs were born at the Toronto Zoo on May 13 to three year-old Jita.

There are lots of new and exciting things happening at the Toronto Zoo this summer. Take advantage of the extended summer hours (there are fewer people in the evening), and the fun rides and adventures. Did I mention the kids can enjoy Splash Island on holidays and weekends?

Babies

On Monday, May 13, three year old snow leopard Jita, gave birth to two cubs after approximately 3 months of pregnancy. Jita, a first time mom, is doing well. So, as not to disturb Jita and the cubs, they are NOT currently visible to guests. Please check the TZ website for more information.

Snow leopards are elusive and are sometimes referred to as “ghost cats”. The TZ participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) among AZA accredited facilities in North America to ensure the species genetic diversity.

The snow leopard cubs are not the only babies at the TZ this year. Come see the Kangaroo Mob, and see the Mother Kangaroo and her little joey. Joeys can stay in Mom’s pouch for 9-11 months – depending if they still fit inside. The Kangaroo Walk-Thru is now open on weekends and holidays. Times will change as the summer progresses.

Guardians of Wild

On August 15, 2024, the Toronto Zoo will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. This milestone marks half a century of caring for wildlife with the support of guests, members, donors, volunteers and the entire community. (Full disclosure – I’m a zoo volunteer).

The TZ is inviting everyone to become a Guardian of Wild. Guardians of Wild are people who take action in the name of threatened species everywhere.

Serengeti Bush Camp

If you are looking for a summer adventure close to home you may want to consider the Serengeti Bush Camp. You will sleep under the stars in an authentic Bush tent on the African Savanna, take part in a behind the scenes activity and enjoy sitting around the campfire making s’mores. The adventure is targeted to families and youth groups.
