“I’ve always wanted to have a Canada Day celebration here at the Port Union Community Centre” exclaimed Ann Standard. “I’ve noticed that many other communities have Canada Day festivities, so why not here?” Ann holds the position of Vice President of the Port Union Seniors Executive Committee. Ann and a team of several volunteers are working with community recreation programmer Rob McMulkin to bring this event to life.
The Port Union event will include some representation from the legion. The opening ceremonies will feature the Colour Guard, uniformed veterans and cadets who will all join attendees in the singing of our national anthem. There will be live music and a barbecue lunch. The entire event is free to the public. What makes this celebration special is the Port Union open house aspect. ” There will be line dance demonstrations and many displays which will feature the variety of programs offered at the centre”.
Ann notes “Nothing happens before its time. This is the first annual Port Union Canada Day event. We want to see this event take place every year from here on in!”
