By the time this article arrives at your door, the Port Union Community Centre will be back to full operation. The last two years have been tough on everyone, but things are looking up!

There is a variety of weekday drop-in programs offered to seniors (60+) at the  community centre. Crafts such as knitting, bunka, quilting, drawing, painting and wood carving are offered. For music lovers, there is a ukulele club on Thursday afternoons. Card game lovers can enjoy bridge, euchre and cribbage. Active drop-in programs include snooker, line dance and pickleball.

The Port Union Seniors will be returning to hosting and organizing events such as special themed luncheons, spring/fall bazaars and travel opportunities. We also lend a hand with community events such as Earth Day, Winterfest and the Summer Concert Series.

Volunteers serve coffee, tea and cookies daily from the kitchen as patrons come and go from various programs. We are currently looking for kitchen volunteers. If you would like to help with the kitchen, please call the seniors coordinator at 416-396-4034.

As volunteer travel convenor, I am very excited to get trips happening again. Port Union is known for its fun travel program. Day trips can include live theatre, casinos and shopping. Pre-COVID, we also enjoyed multi-day trips to exciting places such as Nashville, New York, Calgary, the east coast and more. Should you have any questions regarding our travel program, please contact me and I can add you to my email list for future excursions: Lillianmcmullin@Rogers.com

The Port Union Seniors are looking for more volunteers to join our executive. The executive initiates, organizes and participates in the events mentioned above.  The executive will be holding their annual general meeting sometime in April. If you are interested in attending the meeting, please call the main office at the Port Union C.C. 416-396-4031.

A large part of this vibrant Centennial community was developed in the 1960s and 1970s and there are many seniors who still live in their original homes. We hope you will visit the Port Union Community Centre to find out more about everything the centre has to offer.
