Winterfest is turning 25 in January and the celebration planning is well underway. Jake Forsyth is back as our chair and Winterfest 2024 promises to be better than ever!

The festivities happen on Saturday, January 27 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Port Union Community Centre. There will be special 25th anniversary giveaways, children’s games, inflatables, a BBQ and, of course, live entertainment.

Live acts will include the Memory Lane Band, Shayne Ireland, Precious Kupuna Hawaiian Dance Troupe, Kennedy Station, Sheryl Joyner School for Highland Dance, and Port United. If you have a dog, please bring her/him to be part of the Mutt Show sponsored by Muddy Paws. There will be prizes for best trick, pups who look most like the owner, and more.

Back by popular demand is the free clothing swap. Bring your gently used clothing and take away something you’d like to wear. Please, no undergarments.

Enjoy fun outdoor activities while sipping hot chocolate or hot apple cider by the bonfire. Face painting, a favourite Winterfest feature, will return this year for the kids. The Winter Market will consist of a variety of vendors, so remember to bring some extra money for shopping. I have outlined some of the highlights for this article, but there will be more to see and do than I can mention.
